WELCOME VISITORS

We welcome you to Forest Hills Presbyterian Church!  We hope you experience worship as faithful and inspiring, and as relevant to your life.  The green booth located immediately to your right as you leave the Sanctuary is the Visitor Welcome Center.  Name tags for visitors are there, along with church information that's of interest to visitors and prospective new members.  We also invite you to gather with us for refreshments and conversation.  Please introduce yourself to Rev. Raum as well.  Thanks for worshiping with us, and please, come again!

WORSHIP

Worship today is led by members of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church who recently visited Nueva Guinea, Nicaragua, as participants in the Presbytery of Lake Michigan partnership with churches there:  Mary and Henry VanderGoot, Carlos Suarez and Glenda Quarnstrom.  Henry VanderGoot serves as one of our presbytery's delegates on the partnership planning team.  Church member Sharon Brinks also has been involved for many years in the Nicaragua Partnership, and we welcome her participation today, as well.  The wood chalice and plate on the Communion Table are from Nicaragua.  There will be occasions after Easter for the congregation to receive a full report of the trip and the partnership, with information about new mission initiatives.

LENTEN SERVICES  A service is held every Wednesday during Lent, 7:00 - 7:30 PM.  Services include contemplative music, prayers and reflection on a work of art depicting an episode in the life of Jesus.

CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP PLANNING  Planning has begun toward the possibility of initiating a new, more contemporary service in September.  This service will be offered in addition to, not instead of, our existing services.  A gathering is being held for those who have ideas, suggestions, experiences and concerns.  This will take place on Sunday, March 14, 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, in the Bread House.  Pizza will be available and childcare will be provided.  This is intended as part of our on-going effort to gather and share thoughts and information.  No decisions will be made.

The LENTEN PRAYER FLAGS on display in the Narthex were made by our High School Youth Group.  Dating back to ancient Buddhism, prayer flags were intended to be public symbols of prayers for peace, compassion and goodwill, to inspire any who might see them.  We used these flags to encourage a different approach to prayer.  As the youth talked about Lent and what the sacrifice of Jesus means to them, they were asked to depict whatever prayer was in their hearts on these flags.  These prayer flags are daily reminders of the fullness of life we have because of Christ and His ultimate sacrifice for the world.  The flags will be displayed in the Narthex throughout Lent.

CONFIRMATION CLASS students will be reading Scripture in worship each week.  Today's student is Hanna Sprague.  Class members also assisted in worship during Advent.
