ENGAGE (education hour)

What is ENGAGE and who does it effect?

To sum the program up in just a few words... ENGAGE is a program for PreK– 12th grade to build community and interactively engage in worship.

ENGAGE is replacing traditional Education Hour classes for our students. Our younger students have already had their main Bible lesson during the service with TRU, and our older ones will come back in the evening for youth group,- so we’re trying something different during Education Hour!!!

ENGAGE will be a time where students can hang out with each other, under adult supervision, to build community within their age group. For 5th– 12th grade a classroom setting will be provided for those who wish not to participate in worship arts– prek-4th grade will have fun activities after they finish their worship arts time (movie, game etc.) In addition, opportunities will be provided throughout ENGAGE for students to learn a verse to recite, a song to sing, a dance to perform, or a drama to rehearse that will eventually be incorporated into a worship service!

It’s as simple as that we want to involve students in the service more often and we want them to get to know one another and build long lasting friendships at our church! The benefits of this program are abundant!

What will a typical Sunday of ENGAGE look like?

The framework will always look the same: meet at 10:45 in respective spaces. Then, at some point during the Education Hour (10:45– 11:35am), students, those that choose to participate in worship arts will be pulled out by Megan, Ashley and/or Cory for a brief amount of time. The part that will vary is the worship engagement opportunities! Some Sundays we will pull students out by age group (Preschool– 1st, 2nd– 4th, 5th– 8th and 9th– 12th) while other Sundays we might pull any child that wants to sing a particular song, or 3-5 kids for a specific drama. 5th– 12th grade will always have a class to go to during this time if they choose not to participate in worship arts.

When and where will ENGAGE meet?

We will meet following the service during Education Hour: 10:45– 11:45. This will coincide with the two Adult Education classes that will be offered in the bread house and vineyard. We will meet every Sunday during this time with the exception of the first Sunday of every month when there is a congregational breakfast in the fellowship hall. On those Sundays, we will not meet. Preschool– 4th graders will remain in the children’s space following the service, while 5th– 12th graders will meet in the classrooms off of the core following the service. When pulled our for worship arts– they will be relocated to either the choir room or the Sanctuary depending on the activity.

What’s the commitment for ENGAGE?

Most opportunities will involve practicing for 2-3 weeks and then will be incorporated into the service. Some more involved opportunities (drama/dance) may take 4– 5 weeks. We will also have ongoing filming for various videos to incorporate into the service, for those students that pop in once in awhile!
