We are kicking off this year with a new movement: a movement that will keep our student ministry thinking about the people outside of our group, and focused on some of the needs of the people in our city.
At the end of 2016, we had a series called Move where we talked about moments of service versus a whole movement of service, and concluded that we should be doing something, outside of the occasional Service Night or Mission Trip. Our High School students came up with the idea to put together “Necessities Kits;” small bags that have toiletries, socks, underwear, small snacks, or other necessities for people who may be in need.
Our students will bring in cash, and go on a shopping trip together to find the things needed to fill these kits. We will go to Meijer, Target, Walgreens, DollarTree; wherever the students would like to go to put together their bags.
We will be collecting toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs or hair brushes, face or body wash, lotion, shampoo, shaving supplies, socks, underwear, kleenex, gloves, hats, scarves, or anything else that might be a necessity for people in our city who may be in need.
We will be partnering with Guiding Light Ministries to make sure that these Necesities Kits get into the hands of the people that need them most.
